A continuing crusade to care for all in need
With the support of the Malaysian public, PHM has been in the forefront fighting against kidney disease and providing salvation for those who once had lost their hope to live.
Lately, PHM has seen an accelerated growth in the number of patients applying for treatment. Dialysis is extremely costly. It costs PHM RM20, 000 yearly to support a single patient on dialysis.
Now, we have more than 550 patients and every year, there are large numbers of new patients applying for placements in our programme.
It is highly unlikely that we will ever have more than enough funds to sustain our programme.
Therefore, we need more than RM70 million to support our patients for the next 10 years.
To combat this expensive trend, PHM now seeks a more prudent and effective answer by shifting its emphasis to prevention.
In recent years we have been visiting and been visited by major schools, colleges, universities, corporate, government agencies and private organisations and associations on educational prevention programmes with the aim to reduce the risk of the development of kidney failure.
